Pacific grabbed their third consecutive win in the VPCCL to consolidate
their position among the high-fliers at the top of the table. Again the
team left it late snatching victory with two balls and two wickets to spare.
The team is indebted to Jim Davies for playing in the unexplained absence of
vice-captain Dave Murray and while not being fully fit.
Martians batted well to score 160-2; the pick of the Pacific attack being
Rob Bastin (4 overs for a miserly 21) and rookie Richard Strub impressing on
his debut. Matt Holliday impressed with his heavy duty boots behind the
stumps. Bhola the batter bludgeoned 14 in 4 balls at the end.
In reply, Pacific were never behind the target of 10 an over; Youngster, Tim
Marshall opened and was brutal on the Martians attack scoring a rapid,
contemptuous 44. Aged pro, Jim (19), on one leg, continued the destruction
planting a spectacular six over mid wicket off Bhola the bowler. Steve
Emmins and JC (17*) saw the team home anchoring the innings with a
remorseless 37* . Matt contributed a valuable 18 and Colin a solitary
single.
After the game debutante Richard Strub said "what a great game and I am
delighted to be part of the Pacific team; althought the fielding was poor in
parts the batting and bowling were spectacular; who is this Dave Murray guy
anyway?"
