Ironically, the bowling and, to a lesser extent, the fielding (two excellent run outs) were top class - in marked contrast to the earlier games. Man of the match Martin Cowling bowled superbly and his 4 overs went for a miserly 17 and Darryl Roberts took 2-28 in his four. However, Pete Holman dropped his 19th and 20th catches of the season.

In marked contrast to the previous game when the club scored 11 an over with ease, we were unable to get going against steady but hardly destructive bowling. Lucius (nursing a gammy leg) took seven overs for his 10; JC picking out the only close fielder on the off side in the second over. The middle order were unable to establish a momentum although Rob Allum and Pete briefly threatened a revival and it was left to Martin to lend some respectability to the score with some lusty blows at the end but by then it was too late.

In the end the margin of defeat flattered Pacific rather than the opposition. But it was a game we should have won; keeper Emmins said after the game "we were a batsman or two short in the team and that cost us dear; all credit to the Newham lads, the game was played in an excellent spirit, sorry, what did you say...Murray..no don't know that name son..."
