Disappointment was not in short supply in this corner of Middlesex yesterday. Solid bowling & even sharper fielding could not make amends for a dismal all round batting display that was to follow. The batting was Hartley revisited & tight if unspectacular bowling was enough to undermine Pacific's 2nd round aspirations. The 1st wicket is the best comparison - Chieftains made 86 by the 22nd over, Pacific were 0-1 after 3 balls but still in with a shout at 49-2 also after 21; but then as acceleration was required, the wheels fell off. Back to the nets!
Meanwhile, one point of light relief. In the 1st innings Golding score a SEVEN. The Captain missed him at long on, but the ball landed inside the boundary. As the batters crossed for a 3rd the ball flew out of Jim's hand & over the boundary ! Where to look ? 1st round match
