James Smith almost single handedly took on the cream of Langlebury Youngsters all aged between 17 & 21, by taking wickets, scoring runs & even a catch - well it was a caught & bowled, but in truth this was a strong side we were up against. In name only 2 medium XIs were up against one another but the home side were certainly medium strong & the vacant date in their fixtures had occurred due to an unexpected loss in the regionals of Nation Village Cup - a trophy they reached the final of at Lords in 1993. The visitors meanwhile, had endured the loss of 2 key players in the build up & a missmatch was feared on Friday. To Langlebury's entire credit they played it well & hard & with merit & despite romping home easy winners never patronised. Pacific's players lead by by James Smith could be proud too of playing their part in the game & the rural charming surroundings lifted certian performaces especially The Sumudge. Supporting Smith's wickets were Ben Gibson (+ a run out), Jon Webley & Nick Fuller; & Shayne Rees came back well when suntan lotion made the bill too slippery to hold, & was unlucky. Matt Callender's first game back too & he was brilliant in the field again. Batting, Smith, Webley & Hollman all got past 25 but class simply shone through & it was not the test or even the match it could have been. XI- v Langlebury are:-
LahrieMohammed, James Smith, Peter Hollman, Matt Callender, Joe bennett, Ben Gibson+, Jon Webley*, Shayne Rees, Nick Fuller, Dan Bird, Matt Holliday.
