A comfortable victory on a beautiful day. Former club skipper Atkin played his last match before his Return to Oz (hopefully not his last match for the club) and kept very well.
There was a large number of debutants, all of whom impressed, including a positive opening to the innings from Steve Richards, the short-attention-span innings from Western Australian Simon Edwards, no nonsense batting from Englishman Stu 'Chopper' Hopper, and a tight and bouncy opening bowl from James 'Smell the Bails' Smales. Shot of the day was a Victor Trumper-like drive from Queenslander Sam Parkinson in his short cameo, and he also made a very un-Pacific-like diving catch at midwicket from a swirling skier no less.
A Smithy-inspired tea worked very well and there were many glowing comments, including it being reminiscent of a kids' birthday party. Rabbit on the pitch was an unusual reason for a hold up in play. |
