Norfolk and Chance won the toss and duly invited Pacific to bowl first under somewhat cloudy conditions.
With the rain beginning, Rees and Chandler opened things up reigning down consistent line and length, although with no immediate success. This was soon the case, when Rees collected 3 quick wickets, including 2 in 2, which put N and C firmly on the back foot and with the prerogative being batting through the overs. Chance’s Troy proved particularly obdurate and batted through with some streaky hitting, amongst various lusty blows.
Pacific were needing to chase 94 to win, and opened proceedings with Pritchard and Bastin smashing and tickling the ball around to set-up a first wicket partnership of 46 and a victory on the cards. Proceedings took a slight turn for the worse with the quick wickets of Pritchard, Purcell, and Chandler; alas Rees was there to see things through to the end and earn what was surely a man of the match performance.
Champagne moment- Pritchard’s catch at point off Rees.
The 2007 amalgamation of Norfolk & Chance with The Martians were no match for Captain Rees Afterwards (AKA stardate10 July 2007 08:09) the Captain said "It was a really good win. We fielded really well. Awesome catches by Aroon and Alistair. A run out by Darryl and good bowling all round. Sammy and I put down a catch each (off each others bowling), but neither was easy – especially the rocket to Sammy. Batting was mostly good too - nice to see Alistair and Ben getting some runs and not looking troubled."
