Pacific's dismal 8 a side season continued its dismal run as we lost to Tower Ravens by 30 runs. Again, Pacific fielded very poorly and the Ravens were greatly aided by the short boundary where at least 4 sixes went just over the ropes and over a despairing fielder. However, Darryl and Rob Allum had respectable figures with the ball and Bastin snagged two wickets. The Ravens scoring 157.
The batting again failed to get going. Tim Marshall impressed briefly (24) before perishing on 24; Campbell was caught on the boundary (14) and
newcomer Dave Murray struggled to score 7. Pacific man of match Allum gave a glimmer of hope at the end smiting 3 sixes and getting to 24 not out but,
alas, the damage had been done. The bowling was straight and steady and the fielding competent - much better than ours.
After the game, a downcast skipper said "well, the pressure is on now; I feel like George Burley - one season we're king of the hill the next we're
bottom of the dung heap. I feel I have taken the team as far as I can and it's time for some new ideas; we can use the rest of the season for experimenting..." He also noted "it would be good to get Big Jim and the
Loos back in the team" The team then adjourned to the Vic Park tavern for some beer and weed.
