On a most un-Summer like day, the 2 sides froze as strong cold winds blew across the Park. Pacific's 4 swing & seam bowlers Bastin/Roberts/Hollman & Davies restricted new boys Vallance Bow to a sub 100 total with all but 1 batsman being clean bowled. The headwind was strong that Roberts D looked more like Roberts A while Hollman had ever chance of overtaking the ball in his follow through had the wind dropped at the right time. It was however, the batting of Sammy Purcell & Guy Wiehahn who took the game away from VB with a match winning partnership of 65 by the half way stage & despite the losses of Herring & Emmins, Sammy, watched by his shivering mother, brother & girlfriend, saw his side home with 5 overs to spare. One other notable point, the 2 wickets to fall that were to the VB Skipper - Mafiz, the contrast couldn't have been greater. He bowled Wiehahan with the slowest highest donkey drop which landed on off stump &, remember this was into the wind, the fastest ball of the day with a quick one to uproot all 3 of Herring's stumps. VIII:- Rob Bastin, Jim Davies, Sammy Purcell, Darryl Roberts, Steve Emmins*+, Mark Herring, Peter Hollman & Guy Wiehahn.
