Run Out Under Lovely Clear Blue Skies

Pacific v Darji  VPCCL fixture < previous | next >
Monday 22-May-2006 6.30pm at Victoria Park
Won 5 Runs

Just kidding, it was f'cking p'ssing down, and boy did Pacific and Darji know it! More like synchronised swimming compared to cricket.

Chandler winning the toss again, and after having pondered whether he should bat first or bowl second, decided that he should bat first. With the knowledge that Darji were a solid team, Pacific set about setting the par score of 150, and started off in timely fashion with good 1s and 2s from McKillop, with the odd 4 chucked in for good measure. Danny proving tricky to hit away due to his short of a length, however he did chuck up the odd one including a scorching 6 over mid-on from 'smash 'n' grab' Chandler who went on to hit 39. It's worth noting the variable pace from the spinners that worked nicely for Darji in tying Pacific back, when a large score looked on the cards.

Long again showed that when Yorkshire are great, England are great, well Pacific anyway; his 3rd 50 in a row coming off just 42 balls. With the large partnership broken and new batsmen at the crease, it only aided Pacific's cause with Atkin smashing a 6 over the bowler's head and Charles nurdling the team's way to a decent score of 124-2.

Not a lot of runs for Darji to get, and certainly they started well. However, there had obviously been gallons of redbull drunk by the Pacific fielders, because they fielded like bears on hotplates, and like demons guarding the gates of hell. Darji suffered four run-outs from a combination of great throws, and dogged preasure created by all bowlers, especially the granite-chested Gleadow who returned figures of 4-0-20-2. Although Sat got Darji off to a good start, and Chetan looking fairly handy, the needless run-outs (notably Hollman's from deep cover) really put the final nail in Darji's coffin.

With 14 needed off the final over bowled by Chandler, a couple of slower balls and dots balls later, Pacific had notched-up their 6th win on the bounce with a well-deserved 5 run win.

With even a small total defended, Pacific can look forward to one of their toughest matches next week against Sky, knowing that with a decent score... the Sky's the limit! ho ho ho
