180 Passes Layby

A hardcore 6 turned up for the Annual 10 Pin trophy at Rowans in Finsbury Park. 7 times champ Steve Lay was looking to make it 3 in a row & his challengers were lead by Peter Hollman, the last person previously to win the title in 2005, 07 Runner Up Jon Webley, + Oli Haill, James Gleadow & Matt Callender.

With just competitors it was decided to finish the tourney on the night & so it was to be the winner over 3 frames.

After the 1st frame Steve Lay lead with 137 but 3 others had got into 3 figures. The 2nd frame the scoring spread out more but it was Matt C who racked up the top score so far with 146 as 5 of the players now totalled in the two hundreds.

So into the 3rd & final round with Matt C leading on 274 & Steve in 2nd on 256. 3rd Oli on 226 & 60 points behind Matt, was Pete on 214.

This was a good time indeed to rack up the frame of the match & with all but 2 scores going to either spares or strikes, 180 was an impressive finale. Steve had fallen back with a disappointing 100. Matt C's 112 was also disappointing as Pete's 180 took him to a total of 394, 8 better than Matt in second.

Pete's 3rd win in the 10 pin thereby breaking Steve's run. "Maybe it was the difference between 4 pints of Coors in 07 at 5 % & this year's 4 points of Carling at 4.1% " said the soberer winner.

1st Peter Hollman 121 + 93 + 180 = 394

2nd Matt Callender 128 + 146 + 112 = 386

3rd Steve Lay 137 + 119 + 104 = 360

4th Oli Haill 100 + 126 + 113 = 339

5th James Gleadow 84 + 122 + 125 = 331

6th Jon Webley 89 + 90 + 100 = 279.
