Middlesex Friendly League Update
Fri 25-Sep-2009

Gents All the clubs I approached have now come back and expressed an interest in setting up a friendly league for Sundays next season. The clubs are:- Alexandra Park CC, British Library CC, Grimsdyke CC, Pacific CC, Southall Dragons CC plus ourselves Parkfield & Headstone CC.

My proposal is as follows but please feel free to make any comments:- 1) Each club to play everyone else twice, home & away, to make a total of 10 fixtures.

2) Matches to consist of 40 overs per side but maybe clubs could agree whatever they want on the day, comments please?

3) Home club provides 2 new match balls, one for each innings.

4) Do we want restrictions on bowlers like normal 40 over games? Im not a fan as I feel you dont restrict the batsmen so why should you the bowlers, but Ill go with the flow.

5) 4 points for a win, 2 for a tie, 1 for an abandoned game and none for dropping out (the opponents getting the 4 points). An alternative could be abandoned games being rescheduled.

6) The standard to be medium medium/weak with no stacking the side for big games this is not the idea of the competition as we just want to make the cricket a bit more competitive for regular current players.

7) Fixtures need not always be played on the same dates so as clubs can fit around existing fixtures. Please note the World Cup is this summer from 11th June to 11th July so we might want to swerve that as we may struggle to get sides out on some days.

8) The league winner is the club with the most points at the end. If there is a tie then we can either settle it by the results between the two or the title can be shared.

I think this covers most points but please feel free to make any comments or change / challenge anything Ive said. I am away on holiday for a couple of weeks from Saturday but Tim Powell can answer anything from P&HCCs point of view. Once you are all happy and want to proceed please let me have a list of dates when you are available to play, both home and away and then Ill try to work out a provisional fixture list.

All the best Peter Ford
