The Curtain Came Down (18 - 10 -10)

Club news item

Hello All The curtain finally came down last Saturday night at Wray Crescent at about 15 minutes before sunset & 189 days after the 1st ball was bowled. More than 1/2 a year so not bad!

There's certainly been lots of events & controversies & successes & failures but without you the players it wouldn't have been possible. In fact, on 11 occasions (out of 66) matches of all forms it wasn't. In fact on 5 occasions it was us not being able to raise a full XI which was a real shame ( the others were rain twice, an un-playable pitch once, & the opposition 3 times).

A real shame so full credit must go the members who played & the guests who stepped up. I would especially like to thank all those members who did play the 12 times that we asked for at the beginning of the season & those that were able to turn out more in 2010 than 2009. All the captains & match secretaries & myself are grateful.

Next year will be a new exciting season. Having won the Middlesex Sunday Friendly Invitation League in its' only year of existence & we're branching out further into the Middlesex & Essex Invitation League if they accept our application. So more games at Broxbourne, more local matches, a 2 day game & who knows maybe it will be our year to win back the Lindridge-MacDougal Cup fro UCS.

There's also nets at Lords booked & an AGM in January + the golf & squash & pool & table tennis again. Jim's even back to defend his darts title in February.

Last Saturday was also a sad occasion as Darren who is not only Club Captain but by a quirk of fate also served as President in 2010 & played his last match. He's going to be leaving a big hole to fill & I hope as many of you as possible will be able to make it to the End of Season Dinner & Awards on the 27th November in Notting Hill Gate to pass on your best wishes personally. We'll also miss Justin Hess who's off to Singapore.

Darren will also be defending his golf title on the 26th November so please get back to me if you are interested in that social event.

Be there or feel the wrath!

So hopefully see you next month & if you have any burning issues get back to me or if you have any particular memories you'd like to share & I'll post up on site so keep checking the site as I'll also be posting up the fixtures as they are confirmed + all the social events as they get confirmed.

Finally best of luck to the 3 new fathers & their partners & I'm proud that you organised things to occur outside the season. That's true commitment! And don't forget the record you are aiming to beat is 6 years 238 days.

I'll stand a drink at the EOSB to the 1st correct answer to that one. Cheers
