Pacific v Benfleet at Away  Mon 31-Aug-1998
Lost by 9 wkts

An all day game out in Essex & an under strength side.

P : 161-10. D Roberts 46*. J Edwards 13-4-39-4.
B : 162-1. P Wright 97*. A Coulson 3-2-6-1

The conditions were blustery & the temperature was coolish. Nobody seemed to want to be there & that was more or less how we played. We won the toss & Nigel was right to bat first only this looked becoming a 2 innings game when the batting slumped to 85-8. Benfleetıs Captain was wise to what could easily have been & with the assistance of the 3rd string bowlers Pacificıs batting reached a total approximately 50% below par. This was thanks to a 74 run partnership for the 9th wicket, Darryl Roberts knocking up his seasonıs best. Essex Under 15 Phil Wright found the bowling to his liking & was unlucky not to complete his century when the target was reached with 10 overs to spare. In summary, Pacificıs best bowling figures were handed in by A Coulson. Needless to say, they were not so keen for us to take the fixture again in 99 -in fact the silence has been deafening.
