Pacific's hopes of taking the Middlesex & Essex Invitation League title were dashed on the final day of the season, after a rain-soaked draw with Hadley Wood Green left the Islington side second by a two-point margin, having been knocked off the top by South Loughton, who recorded a home win against Old Parkonians.

As predicted, the outcome of the match at Botany Bay was decided by the toss of a coin, as PCC skipper Ben Boorman called incorrectly, with Hadley Wood happy to concede runs at the rate of seven an over, and then play an unashamedly pointless innings to end the fixture with no result and little dignity.

This season has seen a solid core forming for the league games, with a talented side turning out for the competitive fixtures. Contributions from Timbadia, Chasseaud, Boorman, Ireland, Thiagrajan, Gleadow, Brown, Webley, Bridgett and Korgaonkar drove Pacific into top spot as the final fixture approached, but, looking back, a sub-par team performance against eventual champions South Loughton at Alexandra Palace had proved to be the difference. Ironically enough, that defeat coming off the back of a thrashing of the Essex boys at their ground in the previous league fixture.

And so we look to next year; mistakes will be learned from, the team has now mastered the art of drawing when necessary, and if the same set of players can be retained then there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic for 2014.
