2003 Fixture Secretary's Report ahead of the AGM
Fri 02-Jan-2004

Unless there are any more changes the fixtures are now complete.

This year I have prioritised the oppositions we lost to – so having lost to Crossbats twice they were the number 1. Also we have a dropped off one tour but despite that I have not been able to find places for Theydon Bois or Edmonton. One contingency I hope to put in place is if both Edmonton & us get knocked out of the FMS Shield & Vase in both 1st rounds (as in 2003) I am hopeful we can play them on 31st May. Alternatively, I can check with Theydon if they are free in that eventuality.

Other games we have lost are the Presidents XI – although that could double up as Seniors v Juniors. By way of explanation this was only ever conceived because I couldn’t trust oppos to fulfil end of season games - & with the CCC Emergency Fixture Bureau already closed, this had seemed the best way to raise 2 sides. Now Chats Palace are an established end of term game, its need is superfluous.

Oxford University Club had to be bounced from their mid BH weekend slot but have not as yet come back to me about playing on the Friday of either the Cheltenham / Oxford weekend or the Isis / UCS Oxford weekend.

Woodstock have not come back to me but I’ll slot them in on a Saturday that suits us at either Wray or Parliament Hill fields. Not renewing Theydon Bois is a disappointment but in my defence they haven’t knocked my door down either. We are playing Weston Colville on the equivalent date now.

Old Fallopians would be a useful warm up. I may slot them in on Sunday 18th April at Broxbourne if they’re interested & if the pitch is available.

New games: - Ruislip in the FMS although we lost to them in a one off in the 80s. I’ve asked Steve to provide details. Their strength is not what it was. Crossbats away will be on their new grass pitch in Kingston.

New Barbarian Weasels at home is at Gonville & Cauis. Enstone CC from the Chilterns contacted me. They play Isis & I thought would make a good precursor for Bayshill.

Calthorpe & Highgate are both back but both are at Broxbourne with a view to securing away games in 2005.

Competitions: - The Federation of Middlesex Sports Shield & Vase.

As last year we entered the Vase & having got knocked out entered the plate competition for losers of the Vase & Cup. Hopefully we’ll win our 1st game in this competition & the Club Captain will identify his strongest team & those chosen will support him & make themselves available.

The VPCCL AGM is in February & once again I anticipate a reversion to 2 divisions which clearly leave us in div 2. As League Fix Sec too I will endeavour to ensure we do not clash with England Euro 2004 matches & other significant dates. In exchange I am pledging to assist the Captain & take percentage availability from everyone with a view to ensuring we get sides out regularly & to keep mid season administration to a minimum. Please support this initiative

Tours – a small contingent will join Griffins in Bordeaux in July. I believe that very limited places are still available. Meanwhile, if there is a demand I’ll set up a game in the UK that weekend for those that remain behind.

This means that unless OUCC come back to me our tours will be restricted to weekends. The 1st of which is June 12 & 13th to Balsham & Weston Colville. The following weekend its Enstone in Oxford & Bayshill in Cheltenham.

In July is the French trip & on the 31st & 1st August the annual Isis / UCS Oxford weekend. If you’re not attending the French trip, I would really hope & expect everybody to make at least one of those weekend & for them to let me know well in advance so plans can be made & accommodation booked so we can try to be in just 1 or 2 places & not quite so spread around. What does everybody think?

Grounds: -

We have 6 games scheduled at Wray Crescent, which is 2 more than 03.

We have 5 games scheduled at Broxbourne, which is 1 more than 03.

There are also 1 off “home” games at Queens in Oxford & Gonville & Cauis in Cambridge. Other new away grounds will be Ruislip, Crossbats, and Enstone.
