The League Committee and the founders of the league have been nominated for a Sports Personality/Achievement award sponsored by Canary Wharf.

Some of you may have remember earlier emails inquiring about the history of the league. Well, this is the result, and we are invited to the awards ceremony on Saturday November 13 at 12:30 pm for a lunch and prize giving at Cabot Hall, Canary Wharf. I'm going to be sent tickets, apparently.

We were nominated by Vallance's Mafij Rab, so blame him.

The organisers also want a group photo of us (so the can project it on a big screen). I've explained that's a bit difficult so I'll probably have to take individual pix and montage them. It all sounds a bit of an effort but I suppose it's in a good cause.

Canary Wharf Group is once again sponsoring and hosting its fourth annual Sports Personality Awards. The awards were created as a formal recognition of the outstanding contribution to sport by young people and their leaders in Tower Hamlets and Thames Gateway

Clubs and organisations are now being invited to submit their nominations for this year's sporting awards. The ceremony will be held on Saturday 13th November 2004 in Canary Wharf's prestigious Cabot Hall.

The Nomination Categories are:

- Individual Achievement Award/Sports Personality of the Year - Junior Team of the Year - Senior Team of the Year - Group of the Year - Voluntary Commitment Awards

Nominees are invited to send in a description of their nominated individual or group achievements for 2004 together with a recent photograph by 5.00pm Friday 24th September 2004 to:

Canary Wharf Group plc Sports Development Department The Docklands Settlement 197 East Ferry Road London E14 3BA.

Zakir Khan, Sports Development Officer for Canary Wharf Limited, says, "The achievements and dedication of these young people are all the more significant because the borough is historically associated with poverty and deprivation. As a company based in Tower Hamlets, Canary Wharf Group has intended to highlight how sporting opportunities have helped young people to overcome these adversities and act as role models for others in the community."
