Darryl Roberts romped home by 12 strokes on scratch & by a massive 11 points stableford handicap in yesterday’s PCC Golf Tourney at Mentmore. Added to that he also won the longest drive & the Roberts monopoly was maintained by brother Allan scooping nearest to the pin.

Tradition was broken when it became clear that the Rothschild course was holding a “Captains Day” & so instead of finding a new course where the competition had never previously been held, we reverted to the Rosebery where last year’s competition was held.

The 1st group to go out was Dougal deKeller off 16, Allan Roberts off 22 & Peter Hollman off 28. Darryl (25) lead the 2nd group with Steve Emmins (27) & Adrian Duthie (28).

Allan’s birdie on the 353 yard 4th was the day’s only birdie. So good was it that his tee shot from the 5th also found itself back on the same green ! Poor Allan who had played superbly with 35 after 8 holes fell away & indeed near injury was added on the tee of the 15th when the head of his 5 iron went into the rough to the left of the fairway while ball went into rough on the right !

Despite the ease of Darryl’s win & seemingly disspointing challenges from the rest, a fine day was rounded off at the Froth & Elbow in Dunstable & then onto a most palatable curry.

Malaga in Jan 05 just whets the appetite, meanwhile Darryl has already decreed that he will defend his title in August at the 6027 yard par 70 Silvermere Golf and Leisure Complex in Cobham.

1st Darryl 89 (41 points)

2nd Allan (30) & Dougal (23) 101

4th Steve 104 (29)

5th Pete 108 (30)

6th Adrian 113 (24)
