2005 Darts Tournament. 10th February at the Wenlock Arms near Old Street London N1

A platter of sandwiches was served to soak up the copious real ale. Some players like Darryl started hot & tapered off, while others like John took a little time to reach peak for at the 3rd pint. Meanwhile, your correspondent enjoyed the Archers Mild & when not distracted by Kevin Pietersen on the box, made hard work of putting 3 darts in the same place. Good times.

So to the details, after 2003 Steve Emmins was unable to defend his title, & this year John Baglivi was conspicuous by his absence. Nevertheless, turnout was even better & as ever, only time was available for the 1st round.

With games being halved if neither player is able to finish within a finite amount of attempts, the final table looks as such:-

Name P W D L Pts

Steve Lay 8 4 2 2 5

Darryl Roberts 8 4 1 3 4

Matt Holliday 8 3 3 2 4

Shayne Rees 8 3 3 2 4

John Hill 8 3 2 3 4

Rob Bastin 8 4 0 4 4

Peter Hollman 8 3 1 4 3

Steve Emmins 8 3 1 4 3

Jim Davies 8 1 3 4 2

Indeed, the format worked so well that there was only 1 dead game out of the 36 played & in the final round robin match, matt had to win to qualify, your correspondent had to win to qualify & if it ended in another draw, John would have snuck through into 4th place.

Highest score was 140 scored by Matt, Darryl & Jim. Highest finish was 76 scored by Darryl

All being well, the finals should take place before 18th March when Steve Lay plays Shayne Rees in the 1st Semi Final & Darryl Roberts takes on Matt Holiday in the other.

PS. "The Food was provided FREE as you brought so many into the pub. It was a pleasure to have such good convivial people according to the bar staff. I'm only sorry I wasn't able to be there."
