Steve Slays Them

A resurgent Steve Lay put in a class performance revisiting his championship winning form of yester year with a 3 frame score of 430, 17 ahead of Runner Up Jim Davies, thereby claiming the title for an unprecedented 7th time.

It was back to Rowans in Finsbury Park which is the nearest bowling alley to the soon to be outgoing champ Peter Hollman.

On the night, a die-hard 6 turned up – good for filling 1 lane. It was certainly quiet with the place spars in punters although this did not prevent he music pumping ! Perhaps this put the holder off because he was languishing last after the 1st round, & Jai had a 16 point lead over Darryl. The form for these pretenders looking ominous.

Steve then hit the frame of the night with an impressive 177 but was still 1 point behind Jai on 280 points.

Then, the final round & Steve’s momentum was firmly in place as Jai who had now slipped back to 3rd despite a 3rd score of 125 which shows the standard as higher to recent years; indeed, Steve’s winning score was the highest in recent years (2003 405 PH, 2004 427 SL, & 2005 413 PH). A trend that Pete now hopes continues in 2006.

1st Steve Lay 102 + 177 + 151 = 430

2nd Jim Davies 133 + 125 + 155 = 413

3rd Jai Rajaraman 153 + 127 + 125 = 405

4th Darryl Roberts 139 + 98 + 118 = 364

5th Peter Hollman 88 + 127 + 125 = 340

6th Jon Webley 96 + 112 + 110 = 318.

FOOTNOTE In answer to Steve's question, I can't find anyone who has won ALL the social competitions although Darryl's seems to come closest with only squash being beyond his capabilities. So once he wins that, we'll have to re-introduce the badminton & bridge comps !
