Croft and Nair do well to withstand coup
Pacific v President's XI at Wray Crescent  Sat 17-Oct-2015 at 12pm
Lost 6 wickets

Toby won the toss and hoped that his star-studded batting line-up would make 200-plus. But things didn't start too well with the in-form Jon Thornton adjudged LBW and the captain almost dismissed in bizarre fashion as a short ball steepled up, gloved him and almost sent his helmet tumbling back on to the stumps. As it was we reached only 170 all out off our 40 overs, despite cameos from Aly, Ravi, Paul Davis (taking a quick break from his studies) and Khalid (whose form in the nets demonstrated that No 9 was too low for him). With James Gleadow popping by to watch, it was a shame we couldn't put on more of a show for him but at least everyone got a bat, apart from late arrival Joseph James. Ben Burnham top-scored with 38 before finally being dismissed off the last ball of the innings and had a few bruises, including one on his chest, to show for his heroics.

A very decent tea was had. In this writer's opinion the ham sandwiches were the best element of it, so well done to whoever made them.

Having kept wicket the President, Vincent Croft, then opened the batting but didn't trouble the scorers too much, if at all, as he was caught behind by Aly off Ravi. But with several thumpers in the line-up his side, many of them recruited from Priory Park by the absent Vice President Sandeep Nair, made light work of the Pacific total, chasing it down with more than 10 overs to spare. Not even No 1 spinner Tony T could stop the flow of runs.

Aly led the drinkers to the WB Yeats pub on Fonthill Road, where we admired Vic's handiwork with his coloured pens on the scoresheet. Were it not for our below-par performance, it would have been the most beautiful scorecard of the season.
