Another off-season competition & another highly social & enjoyable evening. This time we had a posse of 6 & amongst Stan McLeod’s challengers were Allan Roberts (Winner 1991 & 1993) Peter Hollman (2003 & 2004) & James Gleadow (2005 & 2006).
Unusually, we congressed on a Saturday evening but at the same venue as last year, namely, Big Red in Holloway Rd. The atmosphere although convivial, was no less unusual a background of rock & metal, piercings & tattos made at least your writer feel 20 years out of place.
Back to the tables & the first round round robin, saw everyone win at least 1 game. Sadly though it was the husband & wife who were eliminated & the business end began. Allan & Stan both won their semis 2-0 & the final between them was a real humndinger wheich went to the black with the score 1-1 in games before Allan sank it & reclaiming the crown conceeded 15 years earlier. Stan did not go home empty handed however as he received the 2007 trophy at the outset of the evening.
