A late withdrawal from Adrian Duthie due to illness left 7 of us to compete in Surrey National where Darryl, as holder, had exercised his right to bring us.
The buggy with Steve Emmins & Tony Tambyraja rode off with the 2 seniors on board while James Smith kept his own company trying to keep up with them.
The course is very hilly & the day was 30 degrees so a wise move judging by their scores.
Meanwhile, the 4 ball stuck manfully with trolleys or just plane carrying over the terrain & the heat played its part.
Holder, Darryl scored a birdie on the 1st which was the only one anyone scored & he also fired out of a fairway bunker on the 14th & followed it with a chip in sand save. The play of the day without a doubt.
Despite Darryl’s 21 points on the front 9, this was surpassed by Tony’s 22 who followed it up with 17 on the back to become the handicap winner for the first time. Darryl despite taking 10 more shots on the back to his front did though record the lowest score of the day with 95 with both Steve & Mark Pittman coming joint second 1 shot behind.
Next year the handicap winner has chosen Finchley. Should be a fun day & short tube journey home.
