The twice postponed tourney finally got underway at the Wenlock PH in N1 unperturbed by the modest turnout & the moderate standard that was prevalent. Sadly with the current holder Colin Pettet + 4 other previous winners unavailable - past champions were represented by 1995/6 winner John Hill.

The round robin saw Jim Davies eliminated despite his winning more games than semi finalist qualifier Steve Lay - the rules making provision for halving matches that fail to complete within agreed specifications. Consequently the group ended up as so...
