As an old boy of the school, an ex former fellow pupil sent me the below this week which I've decided to join. I made this decision not just on past links but because I hope to help secure Pacific's future there as it now appears that this is Pacific's first choice ground to play on grass pitches. There is also the link that the school is in Islington even though the ground lies a 100 yards over the border in Haringey.
I would like to think that others in the club would consider joining too but appreciate circumstances are very different for those currently able to enjoy playing while supporting families etc. However, hopefully you might agree that the club as an entity might feel it worthwhile doing so & will be in favour of such at the next AGM.
Just as a quick follow, I am sure most of you are under the impression that the school owns the playing fields, they do not and never have!!!
The playing fields were owned by the De La Salle order and when they were closing down about twenty-five years ago they offered the playing fields to the school who declined to buy them.
A Charitable Trust was set up to acquire the playing fields and keep them in perpetuity for the benefit of the school and the Old Boys; I for my sins have now been a Trustee for several years and we are always needing to raise money for general maintenance, new goal posts, upkeep of the clubhouse etc.
One way we have been doing this for twenty years has been a 100 club, sadly many of the original founders, for example my father’s generation are sadly no longer with us, and we currently have only 80 members of the 100 club, this has meant that the amount of prize money we are able to pay on a monthly basis has had to be reduced.
Currently there is a first prize of £150 followed a second prize of £100 and three further prizes of £50 each, so a good opportunity to get your money back, or at least some of it, the rest going to a good cause. Getting the numbers back up will in time see the £200 winning prize return, so even more incentive to join.
Now we as a generation are rapidly reaching our mid-sixties, hopefully we are all reasonable comfortable, and some of you (I hope) will be happy to sign the attached form and pay £10 a month for a small flutter and an extremely good cause close to all our hearts.
